ReelVoicesNYC is dedicated to raising awareness and providing outlets for members of underrepresented communities in the film industry, specifically women. In an industry predominantly led by white cisgender males, it is crucial to offer equal opportunities to women, and more so women who are also further minorities based on their sexuality, race, ethnicity, and more. Recognizing the persistent lack of equality, ReelVoicesNYC is specifically motivated to amplify the voices and stories of these women, ensuring they are heard, seen, and given the platform they deserve. By doing so, we strive to create a more inclusive and representative film industry.
Furthermore, ReelVoicesNYC is also a safe space and community where film lovers can come together to have meaningful discussions about films and their experiences. This allows them to communicate with like-minded individuals who share the same passions. ReelVoicesNYC serves as a resource for individuals to discover accessible film-related events happening in NYC, enabling people to cultivate their passion for film no matter who they are.
